In the Netherlands it is quite common to partner with a specialised recruitment agency like us. We have the expertise concerning selection procedures, contracts, remunerations and have the contacts with the companies. Almost all companies use the help of an agency to find suitable staff and our services are free of charge for you.

Contract options:

• Permanent: a direct contract with our client (Werving & Selectie)
• Secondment: a flexible contract with us (Detachering/DetaVast)

Secondment is commonly used e.g. for projects or replacement during maternity leave or long term illness, offering security for a certain period of time. Secondment means that you have a contract with us, but are actually working within our client's organisation. We are are your formal employer and pay your salary. DetaVast is a combination between recruitment and secondment where you'll be working under the same conditions as if you were working directly for our client and our client has the intention to offer you a direct labour contract at the end of the secondment period.

Work permits EU-citizens

People from other EU countries, except for Bulgaria and Romania, do not need a work - or residence permit to work in the Netherlands. You do need to register yourself with the municipality where you live in order to apply for the obligatory health insurance. To register with the municipality you need your passport and certain documents so make sure to inform in advance.

Work permits Non EU or Bulgarian/Romanian citizens

As a non EU-citizen or Bulgarian and Romanian citizen there are three ways to get a work permit:

1. Get sponsored by a Dutch employer who wants to hire you and will start the permit process for you. This can take up to 6 months and is more complicated than it sounds since they have to prove that there are no suitable Dutch or EU candidates for this role. This permit is bound to the company.
2. Through your Dutch or EU partner who is living and working in the Netherlands and is willing to sponsor you and earns a certain minimum income set by the governement.
3. As a highly skilled migrant (Kennismigrant). A highly skilled migrant is a migrant coming to the Netherlands for the purpose of employment, earning a minimum gross income of at least € 50.619 or € 37.121 if you’re under the age of 30. A work permit is no longer obligatory and the government shall make every effort to deal with these applications as soon as possible, but within two weeks at the latest. (In practice this might take a bit longer!) Partners and children from knowledge migrants will also be allowed to work without a work permit, if they are included in the application and if the application is approved upon.
