As Project Lead Engineer, you are responsible for building and delivering a complete engineering package from scratch. You combine technical depth with leadership and commercial awareness.
You will:
- Define, structure, and develop technical packages from Concept phase onward.
- Translate functional requirements into clear technical scope, cost frameworks, planning, and deliverables.
- Take full ownership of your package - including budget responsibility, timeline control, and technical quality.
- Lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams (structural, mechanical, outfitting, interior, etc.).
- Interface across disciplines to ensure alignment and prevent clashes or scope gaps.
- Review technical drawings, 3D models, and documentation, proactively identifying issues and implementing solutions.
- Make and defend technical and financial decisions, including standing firm toward owner’s representatives when requests exceed scope or budget.
- Manage third parties such as classification societies, subcontractors, suppliers, and owner’s representatives.
- Identify risks early and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure engineering solutions are buildable, cost-efficient, and aligned with production strategy.
- Drive the project forward with authority and clarity.
We are seeking a leader, not a coordinator.
You bring:
- BSc or MSc in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
- Minimum 5 - 8 years of experience in yacht or shipbuilding engineering.
- Proven experience owning and delivering engineering packages (not only coordinating them).
- Demonstrated leadership experience: Size of teams managed, Budgets controlled, Packages delivered.
- Strong commercial awareness - understanding cost impact, delivery times, and scope control.
- Experience interfacing with classification societies, owner’s representatives, and subcontractors.
- The confidence to push back when required and protect project boundaries.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work across multiple disciplines and manage technical interfaces.
- Clear, structured communication style.
- Fluency in English (Dutch is a plus).
