Exciting Yacht Building Opportunity in Aschaffenburg, Southern Germany! We are seeking a Naval Architect/ Design Engineer with refit yacht building experience for one of our clients, a renowned brand specializing in custom-designed superyachts for a global clienteleYou’ll join a dynamic and young scale-up team focused on conversions, maintenance, and managing services for the company’s extensive fleet. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the engineering team in the Netherlands, with occasional travel to their office in North Holland.

Tasks

As Naval Architect Project Engineer, you will:

  • Perform core naval architecture analyses – Execute hydrostatic, weight & stability calculations, hull form evaluations (including fairing and optimization), and resistance & powering assessments to secure performance and safety targets.
  • Conduct structural assessments – Carry out structural analyses and scantling checks (and FEM where applicable) to validate refit concepts and define compliant structural solutions.
  • Develop feasibility studies for modifications – Evaluate technical options for refits/conversions, assessing impacts on stability, structure, systems, classification/flag compliance, cost, and schedule.
  • Lead refit engineering & design – Translate concept choices into robust engineering, ensuring adherence to class requirements and internal quality standards.
  • Translate concepts into execution – Produce arrangement drawings, detailed structural plans, and 3D models to support engineering, procurement, and production.
  • Bridge design and operations – Work closely with the yard and suppliers during execution, ensuring alignment between engineering intent and on-site implementation.
  • Drive innovation – Investigate new design concepts, materials, and methods to enhance performance, efficiency, and maintainability.

Job requirements

For this role, you’ll need to:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Yacht Design, or Marine/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Several years of experience in yacht or ship refit projects, ideally with structural engineering exposure. Knowledge of superyacht standards is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency with 3D shipbuilding and engineering software (e.g., ShipConstructor, Rhino, AutoCAD, Cadmatic, SolidWorks, or comparable tools).
  • Fluent English required; German and/or Dutch are a plus.
  • Strong analytical mindset, hands-on approach, and ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders (yard teams, suppliers, engineers).
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to the Netherlands and other sites when required.
