Where smart sourcing powers complex engineering. Take ownership of procurement activities for engineered equipment, mechanical systems and material packages representing more than €150 million in annual spend. As a strategic partner to engineering, you identify supplier-driven specifications, open technical scopes to alternative solutions and enable transparent, competitive tendering. You lead international tenders, coordinate reverse bidding where appropriate and negotiate commercial and technical conditions with suppliers across Europe and Asia. Your decision-making is data-driven, structured and aligned with project and operational requirements. The role includes supporting senior procurement leadership and acting as a stand-in during absence, reflecting the position’s strategic importance within the organisation.

Tasks

Strategic Procurement Leadership

  • Lead international tenders for HVAC equipment, engineered systems and material packages.

  • Challenge supplier-driven or restrictive technical specifications.

  • Open procurement scopes to competitive multi-supplier options.

  • Develop sourcing strategies to reduce dependency on legacy suppliers.

  • Drive cost-improvement initiatives in alignment with organisational targets.

Technical & Commercial Negotiation

  • Prepare, launch and evaluate RFQs, tender documents and bid comparisons.

  • Conduct commercial and technical negotiations with suppliers worldwide.

  • Build cost scenarios and risk assessments to support decision-making.

  • Draft and finalise contracts, terms and framework agreements.

  • Ensure procurement decisions are aligned with project requirements and timelines.

Global Supplier Qualification

  • Identify and pre-screen new suppliers across Europe and Asia.

  • Lead supplier qualification processes with engineering involvement.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and maintain supplier scorecards.

  • Expand and maintain the global supplier network for key categories.

  • Monitor market developments and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate closely with engineering, project management and operations.

  • Analyse and communicate cost drivers, risks and availability constraints.

  • Support specification reviews and challenge assumptions when necessary.

  • Provide procurement insights during project planning and execution.

  • Represent procurement leadership during absence of the department head.

Job requirements

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration or a related technical/commercial field.

  • Several years of experience in strategic or technical procurement within maritime, mechanical systems, HVAC or industrial engineering environments.

  • Ability to understand, interpret and challenge technical specifications and engineered equipment packages.

  • Proven track record in international tendering, supplier evaluation and competitive sourcing.

  • Strong experience in contract negotiation, framework agreements and commercial analysis.

  • Familiarity with supplier qualification processes, global sourcing and cost-down initiatives.

  • Structured, analytical and data-driven working style with proficiency in ERP systems (SAP or equivalent).

  • Fluent German and English, used daily in negotiations, documentation and cross-functional communication.

  • Confident communication style, commercial maturity and a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
